Blind Symphony in Basel. A chamber music concert in the dark 3 December 2026

Following its great success in Europe and the United States, the Blind Symphony project is coming to Austria for the first time.

In this unique concert format, visual perception is completely eliminated. Before the performance begins, each guest receives a special light-blocking eye mask, and the hall is plunged into complete darkness.

When the ability to see disappears, all attention naturally focuses on sound. The subtlest musical nuances, barely perceptible vibrations, and inner rhythms are felt more vividly and deeply. Even familiar pieces reveal a new, deeper, and more powerful side under these unusual conditions.

The music is performed by a chamber ensemble, and rare instruments from various distinctive cultures around the world lend its sound a special richness.

During the concert, you’ll hear more than 70 different sounds and timbres, many of which you may be encountering for the first time.

The program will feature works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, Max Richter, and Ludovico Einaudi.

Blind Symphony is much more than a concert. It is an invitation to experience the full depth of music, free from visual distractions.

When the lights go out, music becomes the only reality.
