The play *Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead* is based on the novel by Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, a Nobel Prize laureate in Literature. At first glance, it appears to be a mystical detective story about mysterious murders in a Polish village—a sort of forest noir. But if we look closer, we’ll see a rich artistic tapestry that includes piercing poetry, biting satire, and subtle psychological observations.
At the center of the narrative is the eccentric Janina Duszejko, who single-handedly stands up against the injustice and cruelty of our world; an extraordinary heroine who seems to have been created specifically for Liya Akhedzhakova. Liya Medzhidovna wittily and boldly brings to life on stage the story of a retired teacher who tries to unravel a series of murders while simultaneously helping her friends—who are just as eccentric as she is.
Actress and singer Musya Totibadze plays the role of Pani Dusheiko’s “alter ego” in this production, performing songs set to the poetry of William Blake. According to the plot, the main character adores this poet, and it is a line from one of his works that gives the novel and the play their titles. Actor Alexander Feklistov also appears in the production.
A mesmerizing journey awaits you: mysterious forest creatures, live music, and a cast of recognizable human characters. The production *Plow Your Plow Through the Bones of the Dead* addresses what matters most: human responsibility toward the world and the fragility of life.
