ANDREY MAKAREVICH: STRINGS AND… STRINGS — a concert accompanied by a Celtic harp.
Every performance by Andrei Makarevich holds surprises; he knows how to both delight and amaze. This time, the artist will present a concert program accompanied by the Celtic harp. This ancient instrument is shrouded in dozens of legends, and its unusual timbre transports the listener into the world of Irish legends. Makarevich’s unexpected decision to make the sound of the Celtic harp—with its characteristic, contemplative “ancient” tone—part of his concert program is yet another sign that the leader of “Mashina Vremeni” never stops in his creative quest.
The music of the Celtic harp shares many similarities with the traditional melodies of the Baltic countries, where plucked instruments existed as early as the early Middle Ages: the Lithuanian kancla, the Latvian kokle, and the Estonian kannel—their rich, resonant sound is reminiscent of the harp tradition. The guitar-and-harp duo will give Makarevich’s songs a special sound, revealing familiar old melodies in a new light and highlighting the harmony of the new ones. Andrei Makarevich and Philip Barsky’s summer concert tour offers the chance for a true musical discovery. Don’t miss it!
